2023/24 GPL players net GH¢1.23 Million in betPawa Locker Room Bonuses

The second season of our groundbreaking Locker Room Bonus initiative saw 490 Ghana Premier League players taste the reward paid to winning squad members immediately after each match.

A total of GH¢1.23 Million was given out in Locker Room Bonuses throughout the campaign to players from 17 of the division’s 18 teams, with only Asante Kotoko not opting in.

The Locker Room Bonus was launched during the 2022/23 GPL season to celebrate winners with instant payouts, an experience betPawa customers are familiar with. For 2023/24, the amount paid out per player was more than doubled from GH¢150 to GH¢400.

It sat well with us and the vision that we have, it has added a lot of competition during training,” said FC Samartex’s Business Development Manager Paul Ayamba.

It gets paid directly to the mobile money accounts of every player on the squad list straight after a win and before the players leave the stadium, hence the term Locker Room Bonus.

We have always sought to go beyond assisting sport management bodies in administration costs of the game to giving more to the players in terms of direct benefits as a way to motivate and celebrate them further,” said betPawa Ghana’s Country Marketing Manager Nii Armah Ashong-Katai.

3,094 Locker Room Bonuses were successfully completed during a captivating campaign which ended with an impressive maiden championship for FC Samartex 1996. The team, who were only promoted to the GPL for the first time 2 years ago, closed an incredible season by beating Accra Lions 2-0. They had finished 10th a year earlier on their top-flight debut.

The Locker Room Bonus is also currently active in multiple competitions in Rwanda and Uganda as part of betPawa’s partnerships with the Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA), the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) and the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
