Promoting sports across Africa is oone of betPawa’s most significant missions. In that light, we engage in numerous activities and projects every season. We aim to promote sports as entertainment and exercise, supporting and encouraging the next generation of athletes and sports fans to get involved.
From grassroots to greatness
betPawa support the local sports community by promoting sports development and encouraging young people to pursue their athletic aspirations. We’re proud to be part of forging the next generation of African champions.
Through our sports development initiatives, We regularly partner with local sports organisations and sponsor various sporting teams and venues across Africa. Here are some of betPawa’s most exciting sports development initiatives:
Igniting Ugandan football with FUFA
We launched a UGX 1.18 Billion partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in September 2023 to reshape the landscape of Ugandan football.
The collaboration involves sponsoring The FUFA Drum, the betPawa BIG League and the betPawa Futsal League, with a shared commitment to nurturing local talent, enriching the fan experience and uplifting football standards throughout Uganda.
Launching Rwandan basketball’s new era
We started working closely with FERWABA in 2023 to help drive an exciting new era in Rwandan basketball. This included sponsoring the division one men and women’s leagues, the betPawa Playoffs, the All-Star Game, Car Free Day 3-by-3 games and more.
Our 423.9 Million RWF investment is aimed at empowering local players, elevating the fan experience and fostering community development. We hope to create a lasting legacy in the hearts of basketball enthusiasts across the country.
Lesotho People's Cup
We joined forces with Econet and Matekane Group to support this exhilarating tournament in Maseru, Lesotho. We aim to help improve football standards and engagement in Lesotho, harnessing the African talent pool to help realise dreams.
betPawa plan to continue working on initiatives like this in Lesotho and extend our efforts to other sporting events. Our goal is to help sports organisations to recover after the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry.
Ghana Premier League
betPawa’s partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) started as title sponsor of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League season and we’ve maintained our commitment to the division and the growth of Ghanaian football since.
Ongoing initiatives include the Locker Room Win Bonus, which is paid directly to the mobile-money accounts of winning players post-match, and construction of the betPawa Football Arena in Prampram.

6-a-side tournaments
Nothing beats the feeling when football players get together for 6-a side tournaments. Young players get to learn how to work together while having the opportunity to win fun prizes. At the same time, the players have exposure to high-level league scouts, giving them the opportunity to level up their sports careers.
In this sports development initiative, we supported teams with KSh1,050,000 in prizes and KSh1,300,000 in kits and equipment. We also helped to reconstruct a community sports ground.
Igniting potential
As Africa continues to evolve, so does betPawa’s sports development through the empowerment of African athletes, uniting communities, fuelling passion and shaping futures – this is sports development at its best.
