betPawa distributes safety equipment to Kampala Boda Boda riders

Boda boda riders in five divisions received protective gear from betPawa following the unveiling of its road safety campaign on Friday, 10 November.

Dubbed ‘betPawa Boda-boda Road Safety Campaign’, this initiative is aimed at complementing the government's efforts in mitigating road accidents, especially involving boda bodas, one of the most vulnerable groups to traffic incidents in the country.

“We want to make boda boda commuting safe for all because this is a very popular and important part of our public transport system. The idea behind this is to help protect boda boda users and the riders through sensitisation on road safety rules, and also to provide them with the necessary safety gear to operate these motorcycles,” said betPawa Country Manager Ivy Igunduura.

betPawa conducted the campaign in five divisions, namely: Nakawa, Makindye and Rubaga within Kampala, as well as Entebbe and Kira in Wakiso district. The brand distributed helmets, reflector jackets and hands-free phone holders to the riders to assist them to adhere to traffic regulations which require them to have these items.

betPawa is looking to support a minimum of 600 boda boda riders during this campaign.

Boda bodas are a crucial part of Uganda’s public transport with millions of people ferried by them across the country where they are used as commercial motorcycle taxis.
